Station 12: Christ’s Birth
Before reading this poem, take a moment to tune into the Spirit.
Get comfortable where you are sitting. Feel free to light a candle or close your eyes.
Take a few deep breaths and focus on the movement of the air gently expanding and contracting your lungs.
Be still and know that this is the Spirit rushing through you.
When you are ready, begin by Meditating on the words of this Poem
With his subtle breaths,
small lungs expanding with the Spirit.
Same Spirit imparted to all
to live; in and out of this life
in and out of his nostrils.
Breath of Life,
the Grace given to first humans.
Now, the crowning of a new human.
The Crowning of the King.
Scripture Reading
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”
John 1:1-4
Take with You
“Mary, did you know?”
The “yes” corner often points to the announcement of the Angel Gabriel, where Jesus is called the “son of God”. Personally, I’m in the “no” corner.
There are so many clarifying moments where Christ in me is confirmed; my purpose is noticed. But actually believing that on a “heart” level takes faith. Faith in the midst of uncertainty when I doubt if God can even still use me anymore.
When Jesus came, we didn’t know who he was. John says,”even though the world was made through him, we didn’t recognize him.” That eventually led us to crucify him.
So I guess the real question is: Do you know what’s inside of you?
As we end our Advent journey, take a second to read and ponder this final poem.
After reading, close your eyes and sit in the imagery your mind conjures from these lines. What sticks out to you?
His humble cries
awake his tired parents.
Beckoning them to his aid.
Cries that echo throughout Time
An invitation to care
for the least of us.
To love one’s neighbor.
