It’s important to mention that when the Prophets spoke it was directly tied to where Israel stood in their relationship with God.

How we respond to the weight of obedience is a personal choice that demands an answer. Do we keep straining to move things on the level that I can see or do I answer the call to speak to what’s underneath the surface?

What does it mean for a loving God to be “wrathful”? That’s a word that might make many of us uncomfortable. Is Isaiah’s calling a picture of unworthiness?

In some ways, the fact that God is calling a child to be a prophet is telling of how corrupt Israel had become. This isn’t to say that God can’t use children at any time because of course he can and has. However, through a cultural lens, Jeremiah is just a boy.

Ezekiel stands by the Kebar River in Babylon. This is a disappointing day for him. Of course, being an exile doesn’t help, but more so, he is supposed to be starting his priestly duties in the Temple around this time. Suddenly, Ezekiel looks up and sees a fantastic vision of the Glory of God! 

Before the Exile, Daniel and his companions worshipped in the splendor of the Temple, surrounded by communal support and familiarity. But now, it's all gone.
