CONCLUSION

One way of looking at the Creation poem in Genesis 1 is that on days 1-3, God is creating and revealing spaces and on days 4-6 he is filling those spaces. One of God’s main functions is creating space which he will always fill with expressions of himself.

Using this model at the beginning of John’s Gospel, we see some amazing revelations into the person of Jesus.

Day 1 and Day 4: The Light (Christ) was made flesh so that he could be reflected by all those who follow him. Jesus speaks and things happen.

Day 2 and Day 5: John clarifies that he is not the Messiah but points to Jesus who is recognized by Nathanael to be the Messiah.

Day 3 and Day 6: Christ is revealed as a firm foundation. His glory is revealed in baptism to John. But also to those at a wedding through his miracle of water into wine.
